ESCAPE WHEN GRABBED FROM BEHIND

  • Widen your legs (aka your base) and drop your weight to make yourself heavier. This will make it more difficult for the attacker to pick you up.
  • Reach between your legs, grab one of the attacker’s legs behind the calf or ankle.
  • Holding onto the leg tightly, stand up quickly and pull the leg up as hard as you can (like a lever). This should cause the attacker to fall, so you can run.

STOP AN ATTACKER SWINGING AT YOU

  • Block the attacker’s arm at the shoulder and wrist, keeping it away from your body.
  • While holding onto the wrist, cup your hand on the shoulder around the attacker’s neck.
  • Pull the attacker's head towards you while you knee them in the stomach or face.
  • Then push them away and escape.

FRONT CHOKE ESCAPE

  • In one motion, simultaneously grab and pull down on the attacker’s arms and kick them between the legs OR hit/hammerfist the attacker’s arms down and kick them between the legs.

  • Pulling/hitting the arms may give some breathing space. But if the attacker is much stronger, it actually distracts the attacker from expecting a kick.

  • Make sure to lean back while kicking to keep balance, and aim to kick up to the stomach to cause the most pain.

  • After disabling the attacker, do a few exit strikes (elbows, hit, kicks) to stun the attacker. This will give you time to check your surroundings and run.
